Well Lived Life (Grandma's Song)

about

I cried so many tears writing this one.
Here’s the story behind the song:

We got a call to pray for grandma because she had a fall.
A few hours later they said she’s doing ok and was getting ready to head home from the hospital. Then we got a text that said she’s going in for testing because she couldn’t feel her feet. That quickly turned into the devastating news that, she had fluid in her spinal column and would never walk again. 😰
We were in the Southwest region of the US and at that moment, we packed up and started heading home to Washington.
Expecting to see my sweet grandma, sing to her, visit with her and tell her we loved her just as much even if she couldn’t walk again…I didn’t expect what would come next.
As far as I knew she was healthy and vibrant, other than this fall.

We were driving north as fast as we could, and made a quick stop to let the kids play at a park. That quick stop turned into 2 days when our 6 year old son fell off the monkey bars and broke his arm. 😨 Though we were in a rush, we knew his health was priority…and grandma would’ve wanted us to take proper care of his arm because I was told that she once broke her arm and it wasn’t set straight. 🥴 I never noticed her crooked arm! 😅

Well, once he was all cared for, we hit the road again, driving early mornings and late nights.

Less than 24 hours before we made it home, we got the phone call that broke our hearts, she had passed in the night. 😞 💔
I was devastated and couldn’t understand why God would allow it to work out the way it did. But I do trust in the Sovereignty of God, I know that everything happens for a reason. I want to trust God even in the moments when life doesn’t make sense. And I can’t wait to see her again. 🤍

lyrics

Well Lived Life
(Grandma’s song)

For as long as I can remember
You wore the prettiest thing
A glowing smile was your favorite style
And you showed us how to care for the simple things
And how to love unconditionally
Lord knows I’m gonna miss
All of this

but I know there are reasons
There’s times and there are seasons
And you are where you oughta be
Where there’s no more suffering
But when I meet my maker
I just might ask Him why
You couldn’t stay another day
So I could say goodbye

For as long as I can remember
You were there to cheer me on
Every game I ever played
Every song I’ve ever sung
And even when I’d mess it up
And make all my mistakes
You were grinning ear to ear
You loved me just the same
Lord knows I’m gonna miss
All of this

But I know there are reasons
There’s times and there are seasons
And you are where you oughta be
Where there’s no more suffering
But when I meet my maker
I just might ask Him why
You couldn’t stay another day
So I could say goodbye

Well I think that I might know
Why the good Lord called you home
Cause I’d have grabbed your hand
And begged you not to go

But I know there are reasons
There’s times and there are seasons
And I don’t wanna selfishly
Keep you here with me
Because heaven needs an angel
And it’s your turn to shine
Now we’re the ones cheering from the side
And it was sure a beautiful ride
And one well lived life
